Contracts Committee member

People’s Memorial Association (PMA) and its member-owned cooperative funeral home are looking for a volunteer to participate in their Contracts Committee and, if interested, as an alternate Board member.

The Contracts Committee: PMA sets prices on behalf of its 70,000  living members for funeral services and engages in contracts with funeral homes across Washington State that agree to honor the reduced member pricing. This committee will be determining if the PMA member prices should increase and is looking for someone who is familiar with finances or economics to participate in these discussions and the decision-making process (understanding of the funeral industry is not required). A multi-year strategy for determining prices and increases needs to be established. Committee meetings are typically held during business hours and are done remotely via Zoom. The commitment will be about 10 hours of meetings between the fall of 2022 and June 2023, then as needed and available after that.

The second volunteer opportunity is to join the PMA Board of Directors as an alternate board member. The Board of Directors meet remotely via Zoom every other month. This is a one-year commitment that includes attending board meetings and participating in one committee (preferably either the Finance or Contracts Committee).

People’s Memorial Association is a registered 501c3 nonprofit that provides funeral education and advocacy in Washington State. It is a memorial society that has had over 215,000 members since 1939. The members own the country’s only cooperative funeral home called The Co-op Funeral Home. This full service funeral home is based in Seattle and serves King County. Please visit www.peoplesmemorial.org and www.funerals.coop for more information about these organizations.
