Overview

While key indicators show the United States and much of the world is in a period of economic expansion, a tremendous amount of uncertainty and risk still pose challenges in business environments across the country. Meanwhile, information being presented in the news and other media outlets is often wrought with subjective commentary, making it difficult to assess the true impact of certain policies. This course is designed to explore current and ongoing economic issues facing the U.S. and the world, looking at official source data to allow the CPA or financial professional to objectively analyze possible ramifications for their organization.

Objectives

Understand key economic indicators across the U. S. and what they may mean for your organization and financial forecasting. Analyze current budget deficits at the federal, state, and local levels and the potential impact on the business environment and revenue recognition. Understand and analyze the issues surrounding international trade agreements, tariffs, and their impact on business, inflation, interest rates, and unemployment. Analyze current national and international legislative issues, with a focus on data and financial privacy and new accounting pronouncements, and the potential impact on businesses across the globe.

Francis Ryan, Semper Finance Inc

Frank Ryan is president of a management consulting firm specializing in turnarounds, workouts, crisis management, strategic planning and working capital management. He has extensive experience working with banks in negotiating forbearance agreements, loan workouts, capital restructurings, vendor negotiations and bank lending requirements.

Prior to his consulting business, Mr. Ryan was the chief operating officer of a mid-sized manufacturing company. Additionally, he is the chairman of the Audit Committees of two publicly traded companies and has extensive board level experience in the for-profit and non-profit arenas.

He is a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, and has served in numerous contingency operations to include Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He received the “Outstanding AICPA Instructor” award in 1994-95 and again in 2005-06.
